Hope Sonnet

I woke up one day in a world
Where people die by the thousands,
And I cried like a little child.
I want the numbers to stop rising and
Healing to spread, contagious -
And so I hope.
This hope is a sonnet
I hold tightly in my fist
I do not let go, because I know it will heal.
I tell myself that life doesn't end here
And that God is with us in this suffering
I hope all this will soon end
I get up and go on with life.
I feel stronger now - I am stronger now

One Word is Enough

It was the celebration of progress
And the song of modernity blared out
Life's rules were the same as jazz, and
Everything depended on pretty much nothing

But now all the billions of us,
Watch as the song of modernity
Crumbles to silence.
We see rising numbers, vanishing lives

Sickness dances in the breeze
Like an angry ballerina
Wrecking havoc on the past, present,
And future

And the whole world, all the billions of us
Are searching, praying, hoping, crying,
For one word and one word only:
Healing

A Song For You

There is a sweet song
          Dancing through the skies,
On the wings of the wind
To your home, to your heart,
To tell you:
          Life is bright
Hope is daily
          When your hands
Hold onto God

In Laughter and In Gratitude

You whispered me from nothing into the dancing colours of existence
I opened my eyes and found pastures to my right,
Still waters to my left,
And the sky unfurling above me with an array of stars
And you, my Shepherd, watched over me as I danced and laughed about.
Weaving myself through the green pastures
I discovered with wonder the trees, the birds, the stars, the Sun

Weaving myself through the days and nights,
I grew older - and reality lost its spark of wonder

And then winter came.
I closed my eyes for a moment,
Opened them again,
And this time found myself face to face with my Shepherd, my Maker
The One who directs the stars of the night and the feet of my soul
His eyes drowned mine,
And winter blossomed into spring

Weaving myself through the green pastures
I danced in laughter and in gratitude,
Grateful for all the summers
You have deigned to bless me with
And grateful for the melody of miracles You, my God, have whispered through my life

Wandering

Walking in the middle of the night
In the middle of nowhere
I follow an unlit path that winds and winds
And takes me to some invisible meadow
But it is not a meadow that I want
What I want is to climb the highest mountain
And to stay there forever

Am I sleeping and dreaming
Or sleepless and walking?
Where is the line that divides dream and reality?
There never was any line, I tell myself,
And I pluck a few stars from the brooding night sky above me
They glisten like shiny pebbles in my hand.
I laugh silently,
And I grab a dozen more stars -
And then with a flourish,
I take hold of a corner of the blanket of the night sky
And pull it tumbling to the ground.
Behind it I see a bright blue sky,
Lit with the everlasting light of the Sun

I was walking in the middle of the night
In the middle of nowhere
I am not lost anymore
I have brought myself the dawn,
And now will I search for high mountains

Ears Have Walls

Ears have walls (or is it the other way around?)
So know that there are limits to my listening
A hundred distractions fly around me like butterflies
I have only the attention span of a goldfish (or a toad or a frog)
Only if you wave away my distractions can I listen
Ears have walls
So break the walls (and I may turn Prince)

Eyes Up

Oh no I got no worries
Or blizzard-white flurries
Troublin' ma old heart
Nothin' o'er here kickin' up no dirt
I done all I gotta do today,
Liv'd up swell each passin' moment
An' I got no qualms 'bout the roads I done gone by
In the evenin' I swervin' in thro' ma car garage
And clambin' the stairs
An' if ye whinin' away that
I got the best o' the best all day
Ye might as well put on yon overcoats
And tattletale that to the winds o' the night
Coz brother, I trust in truth and hard work,
Hard work as makes ye sweat and sweat,
An' I been sittin' up all day,
Smilin' ear to ear
I'm cool, chap, I'm cool, and sittin' here lookin' eyes up
